Almond and Apricot, Hayes Garden Centre

Image
This morning my daughter drove me to Hayes Garden Centre in South Ayrshire. The cafe was ticking over but there were plenty of seats. i had a pot of tea and plumped for the Al ond and Apricot scone. The scone was large and slightly irregularly shaped. Chunks of fruit were visible and a light dusting of icing sugar topped the few toasted almonds which crowned the cake. On cutting the scone it fell apart and spreading butter made it more crumbly. The areas of dough around the generous chunks of apricot were moist, but around the edges it was quite dry. This doesnt bother me as I prefer a dryer scone. The almond flavour was quite strong and a tad unnatural to me palate. It reminded me of marzipan - food of the devil! It was a good scone, but I dont think I'd choose it again. 7/10
